ZOFS Engineering has been instrumental in the $1.24 billion project aimed at reconfiguring the existing Central Terminal Area (CTA) roadway system to ensure seamless and more efficient terminal access. This ambitious project includes the creation of new roadways, bridges, utilities, a multi-level Grand Transportation Center (GTC) garage, an arrivals plaza at grade, and a green roof. In addition, utilities were relocated and updated to meet current standards, with new utilities installed to support the new facilities. As a key sub-consultant to the lead designer, Parsons, the Skanska-Halmar JV ZOFS’s team of engineers, CAD operators, estimators, and document control specialists has provided essential support.
Our team has supported both civil and structural design. Civil Design included drainage, bridge scuppers, design checks for traffic signals, conceptual checks for electrical cabinets, overhead sign structure design, utilities design, RFI responses, and shop drawing checks. Structural Design included framing plans with considerations for splice lengths, overhead structures, and detailing reinforcements for bridges at various stages of completion, including 30%, 60%, and 100% drawings. Notably, ZOFS played a pivotal role in the structural design of several bridges within the JFK Airport Central Terminal and its surrounding area, including Bridges J20, J21, J25, J37, J39, and R8. Throughout the project, the team addressed critical aspects such as load rating reports, quality control of design and capacity check reports, and verification of CSI Bridge models. In addition to structural design, ZOFS provided expertise in producing CADD drawings for the civil and bridge design packages. This included incorporating markups from the design team into contract drawings and modifying structural details of superstructure and substructure elements to ensure compliance with PANYNJ standards. ZOFS maintained close coordination, providing clarification on markups and ensuring timely progress-set drawings. Additionally, ZOFS provided Document Control Services to streamline project documentation and operations, reinforcing our commitment to quality and efficiency in every aspect of the project.
