ZOFS Engineering is providing independent quality-engineering and inspection services to the Skanska–Halmar Joint Venture for the construction of the new Ground Transportation Center (GTC)—a cornerstone vertical component of the $1.24 billion JFK Roadways, Utilities & Ground Transportation Center (RUGTC) Design-Build project. The five-level GTC serves as a modern multimodal hub integrating a 1,950-space parking facility, electric-vehicle charging systems, and a solar-ready green roof designed to promote energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational resilience. ZOFS’s quality engineering team provides quality oversight of major GTC structural, architectural, and MEP systems. The GTC’s $134M structural works comprise deep foundations, post-tensioned superstructures, and floor-slab assemblies. The scope includes pile installation, mat-slab reinforcement, concrete placement, curing, waterproofing, expansion joints, membranes, and topping slabs. The building envelope and exterior enclosure, totaling nearly $47M, include composite curtain-wall systems, architectural louvers, DensGlass and cold-formed metal framing assemblies, and weatherproofing systems across four rooftop quadrants. Interior construction encompasses multiple concurrent scopes, including floor-slab finishing, elevator-shaft construction, and architectural fit-outs, floor finishes—such as tile and terrazzo installations on levels 2 through 5—and signage, wayfinding, and painting activities within back-of-house and front-of-house areas. The firm ensures strict adherence to fire-rating requirements, accessibility compliance, and finish tolerances during the final construction phases. The $21M mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) program includes complex installation and commissioning of life-safety, lighting, backup-power systems, electrical rough-ins, conduit installation, lighting-control systems, fire-alarm and sprinkler systems, and elevator electrical integration, CCTV, access-control, and remote monitoring systems, ensuring compliance with PANYNJ security protocols.
