CADD
The Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is undergoing a transformative redevelopment, and at its core is the full replacement of the aging AirTrain system. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has approved a new 2.5-mile elevated automated people mover, including three new stations, to replace the existing system that links terminals, parking facilities, the rental car center, and the Rail Link station. The new AirTrain, once completed, will accommodate projected passenger growth of nearly 50% by 2040, ensuring the system remains reliable and sustainable for decades to come.
ZOFS Engineering is supporting this program as a key subconsultant to Parsons, the lead designer, by providing critical structural drafting and detailing services during the 60% and 100% design submissions for the AirTrain Newark Replacement Program Guideway and Stations Project, which consists primarily of elevated guideway and station structures that are fundamentally bridge-type systems. This work has been performed across DP.205, DP.235, and DP.260 design packages.
Our team has delivered substructure plans and elevations covering foundations, piers, reinforced concrete columns, bearings and concrete pad layouts, and associated reinforcement and sectional details. For the superstructure, ZOFS has produced girder plans and elevations (with splice locations), splice details, framing plans, camber and haunch tables, deck reinforcement plans, and detailed bearing and deck joint drawings that define the constructability of the new guideway system.
In addition, ZOFS has completed structural design for edge protection systems under DP.260, developing the required calculations and design criteria and translating them into coordinated design documentation and supporting details. All deliverables follow a rigorous workflow: progress sets undergo internal QA/QC, are consolidated through Bluebeam markup sessions with the design leads, and are iteratively refined until accuracy benchmarks are met. Having worked extensively on these packages, ZOFS has also supported the preparation of design documentation and progress sets issued for contractor bidding and review.
