This $80 million capital infrastructure project involves the installing of storm and combined sewers in the Willets Point area of Queens. Phase I & II of this project have been substantially completed.
As a pilot Joint Bid contract, the REI team was integral in determining the effectiveness of the new contract type. The team worked closely with the Joint Bid utilities in defining their terms, with the Contractor in implementing the terms, and with NYCDDC in evaluating all phases of the pilot program.
The REI team identified substantial utilities work which had a chance of significantly delaying the project’s remaining phases. They recommended that two of the downstream chambers to be built ahead of schedule so that deep sewer construction work can proceed upstream during the winter months. Construction proceeded as directed and during the winter months focused on the deep sewer construction work, alleviating pressure on the project timeline.
